Cambodia Gambling Halls

by Lia on Dec.29, 2009, under Casino

There is a captivating history to the Cambodia gambling dens that sit just over the dividing line from next door Thailand, in which casino gambling is not legal. Eight casinos are established in a relatively small location in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia casinos is in a perfect destination, a three to 4 hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 biggest gaming centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a huge business with Thai workers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The amazing income gained from the gambling dens ranges from $7.5 million to more than twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a few restrictions constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is assumed to be largely Thai; although, financing sources are cryptic. The borders are officially open from 09:00 to 17:00, and even though visas are supposedly required to pass, there are ways around this, as is real of most border crossings.

The first Cambodia gambling halls premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving just a single gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary bateau gambling hall, highlights one hundred and fifty slot machines and sixty gaming tables. The Naga gambling den never closes with forty two tables of mini-punto banco, 4 tables of vingt-et-un, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The original gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon followed. A total of 150 slot machines and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machine games and 68 table games at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights three hundred slots and seventy table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machine games and 96 gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat chemin de fer (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machine games and sixty six of the common gaming tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the 8 gambling dens in Poipet, also in a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a comprehensive resort and hotel complex that contains many conveniences in addition to the casino, which provides 10,000 square feet of one hundred and thirty slots and 88 table games.
